How to create your travel story

Everybody has a story to tell. Whether it is how you were raised, how you chose your career or how you picked your home, these stories make up the fabric of your life. Each adventure you take adds to this story and everytime you travel, whether you are going away for a quick weekend trip or taking a world cruise, you add a chapter to your book.

  • Embrace the unknown

When you decide to travel, you are venturing into the unknown. Even if you are going to the same place you have been before, every experience will be different and until you get there, you don’t really know what you are going to find. I have been to New York many times, but each time I go, I do different things so no 2 trips are ever the same.

  • Challenges happen
Some of the best travel stories are the challenges you encounter on your journey. Steve and I have had many mishaps when traveling, from planes being delayed to luggage being lost to cruises being diverted away from ports. But each of these situations made for a great story that we still tell and they made us better travelers.

  • New Friends and Acquaintances
Along the way, you will probably meet new people who may be sharing the experience with you. On our first river cruise, we had the pleasure of meeting incredible people with whom we shared dinner and embarked on memorable excursions.

  • Take Time to Smell the Roses
Be sure to schedule time to “get lost in the city” or sit at an outside cafe and people watch or journal about your experiences. You want to remember everything. When we travel, we are sure to have down time so we can walk around ourselves and find unique places on our own.

  • Embrace the Change
When you return home, you may learn to cook new foods, read different books or take up a new hobby you learned about on your trip. When we got home from Greece last summer, we ate Greek salads every night.

  • Share Your Story
You want your friends and family to know about your trip so you can post on social media, write a blog or share a photo journal. One of the people on our China trip, made a number of videos of the trip that he shared with all of us when we returned home.
