My “Must See” Destinations
Steve and I have always enjoyed traveling. We spent many days traveling with our kids to Disney, beach vacations, cruises and even abroad as they were growing up. And when we became empty nesters, we continued to travel frequently both within the USA and abroad.
As we each turned 60, we decided that we wanted to concentrate our travel on our “:must-see” places for the next 10 years, when we are young and healthy enough to do this type of travel. And if we are still able to do this type of travel when we get older, it will be a bonus. We don’t want to look back in our later years and regret that we didn’t get to places we really wanted to go.
With that in mind, we started making a list of the new places we really want to go:
Australia & New Zealand: This will probably be Steve’s retirement trip, once he stops working full time and starts working with me in my business. We really think we need 3 weeks for this trip and he doesn’t have the time to do this yet.
Japan: Since we went to China in April, and Steve got to 2 more of the Disney parks, the last park we need to get to is in China, so while we are there, we need to see some of the country, as well.
Antarctica: This will be done on a small ship expedition cruise, as this is the best way to experience Antarctica. We will either sail through the Drake Passage or fly the Drake Passage. These cruises can only be taken in January, February, November and December and typically sell out quickly.
Africa: I have had several clients take safaris in Africa and have only heard the most wonderful things about them. The decision we will have to make is whether we want to do a group trip or have a private guide for this adventure.
Costa Rica: Everyone says Costa Rica is not to be missed, so it is on the list.
We also have a list of places we want to re-visit:
Alaska: We want to take another cruise to Alaska but probably on a smaller ship next time.
Barcelona: We spent a day there prior to a cruise a few years ago, but due to flight issues, we missed most of the day and when we arrived, we were exhausted, so we didn’t appreciate the city.
Budapest: I spent 4 hours in Budapest on a river cruise, and Steve has never been there. 4 hours was not long enough.
Hawaii: We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon 36 years ago, but we have heard that it has changed and we would like to get back to paradise.
We are actually in the process of thinking about 2025 travel, as we have nothing booked yet. I will keep you posted if we end up checking anything off of our list.
