Summer in Seattle
Seattle in the Summer
Steve and I are so lucky that not only do we live close to the Canada border, but we live 100 miles north of Seattle. Our son, Michael, moved there in 2015, so we have been visiting yearly until we moved here in 2020. And each year when we visited, Michael made sure we did different things. And there is so much to do in Seattle, especially in the summer.
Here are a few of my favorite Seattle summer sights: (in no particular order)
Space Needle
Standing 605 feet tall, the Space Needle has 360 degree views from its 3 main viewing areas: an indoor observation deck, and open-air areas located at 520 feet and an observation level featuring a revolving glass floor located at 500 feet above ground. While I don’t like elevators, it is a quick 43 seconds to get from the ground to the top level, 520 feet above Seattle.
Chihuly Garden and Glass
Located next to the Space Needle, is an exhibit featuring the works of Dale Chihuly. The exhibit features a Glasshouse, an Exhibition Hall containing eight galleries and three drawing walls and a lush garden featuring glass sculptures of beautiful shapes and colors.
Pike Place Market and The Market Theater Gum Wall
Pike Place Market is the famous Seattle farmer’s market featuring seafood, meats, baked goods and fresh produce and florists. There are also restaurants, food stands and artwork to purchase.
The Market Theater Gum Wall is a brick wall covered with used chewing gum located under Pike Place Market. While it is a little gross, it is fun to leave a piece of gum to add to the local landmark.
Amazon Spheres
The Spheres are a place where Amazon employees can work among more than 40,000 plants from the could forest regions of over 30 countries. We were lucky to be able to tour this amazing facility with an Amazon employee a few years ago. This is a very unique place to work in a creative and healthy space.
Sailing on Elliott Bay
While I discovered I enjoy a cruise ship better than a sailboat, we had so much fun taking a sunset sail on Elliott Bay. No better way to see the sunset and enjoy the water!
Bill Speidels Underground Tour Sight
Did you know there are ruins buried under the city of Seattle? Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour takes you on a stroll through the subterranean storefronts and sidewalks entombed when the city rebuilt on top of itself after the Great Fire of 1889.
Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour
A short ride from Seattle in Mukilteo, you are able to tour a working Boeing factory and see 747s, 777s and Dreamliners. Definitely worth the drive!
Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery
Chateau Ste. Michelle was one of my favorite wines, even before I knew it was made in Woodinville, Western Washington’s wine outpost. Not only do they have a tasting room, but there are outdoor concerts throughout the summer.
There are so many more fun things to do in Seattle in the summer. Water, mountains, excellent food and tons of sightseeing, make Seattle the perfect summer getaway. Contact me to further discuss how you can visit Seattle this summer.
