Where to Find the Elephants?
This is a difficult week for me. My mother passed away on March 15, 2005 and my whole world changed. Even though I was an adult and a mother myself, there is nothing like losing your own mother. It breaks my heart that she has not been here to see her grandchildren grow into adults or to give me the advice I have so often needed. But I do have 1 comfort. My mom loved elephants and everytime I see one, I know that she is looking down on me and watching over me and my family. And so today, I am honoring my mother’s memory by featuring:
Five Safari Destinations to see Elephants in Africa:
Chobe National Park, Botswana has a huge elephant population and is one of the best places in Africa to see elephants. It can be accessed by either boat or vehicle. The best time to see the elephants is during the dry season, between May/June until the end of October.
Amboseli National Park, Kenya is the place to see the images of elephants in front of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which is a 4 hour drive from Kenya. The best time to see these elephants is during the dry season from June until October and from January to February.
Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe is one of Africa’s most scenic parks located in the lower Zambezi River, the pools and photogenic glades of large riverine trees. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Best time to see the elephants is during the dry season from June through October.
Mashatu Game Reserve, Botswana is called “Land of the Giants” due to its Mashatu trees, huge baobabs and of course, its elephants. The best time to see the elephants is during the dry season from June through September.
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia is abundant with wildlife and walking safaris and night drives are available. There are herds of elephants and they often swim across the Luangwa River. The best time to see the elephants is during the dry season from July to November.
I have several partners that specialize in African safaris and I would be happy to speak with you about planning a safari for you. Please contact me to discuss how you can see the elephants.
